Don’t you want YOU in the photos?

As I am the photographer in the family, I never appear in any of the family photos. And seeing as you are the parent in the family and always busy with something, you won’t appear in any of the photos either. Frustrating, huh?

I have to say that it is probably one of my most favouritest (made-up word, soz) thing in the world - capturing you and your little squiggle(s). To be fair, it’s my job… and squiggling, they really do. Because I work completely freely with no staging or directing, following children’s movements does feel like following a squiggly line along a piece of paper. Tricky work… fast shutter speeds and timing is everything.

What are family photos to you? What types are they of family photos? The ones we grab on our phones… and look back on scrolling almost as a visual daily journal months later… and then there are family photos that can tell our story and can freeze a particular moment in time - those professionally taken family photographs are ones that can then populate an album to tell your very own family story… or they are the ones to dress your walls.

You work so damn hard at being a parent. It’s exhausting work… and sometimes, isn’t it just nice to have that one photo on a wall that reminds you that you are frigging good at it? And I guess that’s why I love taking images of … well… your relationships… I just want us to realise that whatever we are doing and however we are doing it, we are doing so much. And we are enough.
